Cuerpo – María Castellanos Vicente
DESCRIPCIÓN: I use flour and water to build a dress, which I sculpt directly on the model s body. This is a new example of my research on the relationships that exist between the skin and our clothes and on how to create a new tissue using two basic elements – flour and water–. Flour and water are the ingredients of bread, which is the most basic food in Europe.

Statement:
I have a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo, in Spain, and at the moment I am working on my PhD research project –Bionic Skin–, where I study how art can use technology to enhance human sensibility
In my work as an artist, I explore three main topics:
- The relationships between the concepts of Skin and Tissue, understood both as a textile and as a biological element.
- Perception
- The limits of human senses and how we can use technology to enhance them.
All my works refer at least to one of these topics, but in some particular projects we can find references to the three of them. This is the case of CORPO-REALIDAD, which I produced in 2012 thanks to the Prize Astragal.
