Mouring – Maryam Rezaei
DESCRIPCIÓN: Mourning for religious leaders is a part of Muslim religion. A large group of people wear black clothes and beat on their chests with their hands pointed to their hearts. By this action, the people try to show their sadness for the cruel events that happened to their Imams in Islamic history. When Muslims lose part of their family or friends they do this action as mourning also.

Maryam Rezaei is an illustrator, animator ,photographer and interactive artist. She has taught art for 8 years at the university level in Iran and the United States. Also she attended different courses and pursued degrees abroad in countries such as Spain and the United States. She has MFA,MA and BFA in visual communication. She has received the Grand Prize award from Society of Korea Illustart, South Korea for her illustration and was selected best out 8 different categories. She was honored by University of Texas at Arlington with COLA award for significant student in masters degree. She also received awards from Houtan organization and Iranian-American women’s scholarship. She was accepted in different juried exhibitions and festival appearances in Italy, South Korea, Iran, Turkey, USA, Spain and Macedonia. She was also a finalist in the Adobe Design awards. Her art focus is on local and international issues. Maryam believes that to live in peace and success we need to educate people through art and build awareness of important issues. She gravitates to her Persian background in her art although her symbolic pieces resonate for international audiences. Due to the importance of concept in her work, she works with a variety of different media and presentations in order to transfer each message with the most strength. Recently her focus is on interactive virtual reality environment.
